Phi Phi Islands & Maya Bay — Krabi, Thailand
KrabiNovember – April

Phi Phi Islands & Maya Bay

Sheer limestone cliffs rising straight out of clear green water. We run Phi Phi by speedboat or longtail from Phuket and Krabi, with snorkelling stops around the bays and a route timed to reach Maya Bay outside the busiest hours.

KrabiNovember – April

Railay Bay

A headland cut off from the mainland by cliffs, so the only way in is by boat. Railay pairs soft-sand beaches with some of the best-known rock climbing in Asia, and Phra Nang beach sits a short walk over the peninsula.

Koh SamuiFebruary – September

Ang Thong Marine Park

An archipelago of more than forty islands protected as a national marine park, reached on a day trip from Samui. Kayaking through the lagoons and the viewpoint climb above Emerald Lake are the reasons most people come.

Surat ThaniDecember – April

Ratchaprapha Dam (Cheow Lan)

A vast emerald reservoir inside Khao Sok National Park, with limestone peaks standing straight out of the water. Overnight stays are in floating raft houses on the lake, with longtail trips and jungle walks between them.

KanchanaburiNovember – February

Erawan Waterfall

Seven tiers of turquoise pools stepping down through the forest of Erawan National Park. The lower levels are an easy walk and swimmable; the upper tiers take more of a climb and stay far quieter.

Doi Inthanon National Park — Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chiang MaiNovember – February

Doi Inthanon National Park

Thailand's highest mountain, and cool enough at the summit to need a jacket. The park holds the twin royal pagodas, cloud forest nature trails, Wachirathan waterfall and Karen and Hmong villages on its slopes.

Culture & Heritage

BangkokNovember – February

Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew & Wat Pho

Bangkok's royal heart: the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha at Wat Phra Kaew, with the 46-metre reclining Buddha of Wat Pho a short walk away. A strict dress code applies, and we start early to stay ahead of the tour buses.

BangkokYear-round · best at sunset

Wat Arun & Chao Phraya River

The Temple of Dawn, its central prang encrusted with porcelain that catches the light at either end of the day. We combine it with a Chao Phraya river crossing and a longtail run through the old canals behind the temple.

AyutthayaNovember – February

Ayutthaya Historical Park

The former Siamese capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site an easy drive north of Bangkok. Brick prangs and rows of headless Buddhas remain from its sacking in 1767, including the Buddha head held in fig roots at Wat Mahathat.

Loy Krathong & Yi Peng Festival — Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chiang MaiNovember (full moon)

Loy Krathong & Yi Peng Festival

Thailand's most photographed festival, held on the November full moon. Krathong floats are set on the water while Chiang Mai's Yi Peng lanterns rise together into the night sky. Dates move each year, so book well ahead.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Thailand's best-known floating market, roughly two hours west of Bangkok. Vendors paddle produce and cooked food between the boats. Go at opening time — by mid-morning the canal belongs to the day-trip crowd.

Northern ThailandYear-round

Elephant Sanctuary & Forest

Retired working elephants living out their lives in forested valleys in the north. We work only with no-riding sanctuaries, where the day is spent feeding, walking alongside the herd and helping the mahouts who care for them.

Longtail Boat Experience

The wooden longtail is how Thailand's coast has always been travelled. Chartered privately, it reaches the coves, sea caves and snorkelling spots that the larger boats have to leave out of the schedule.
